Another step that Nvidia plans to take is into the powering of humanoid robots

The chipmaking kadkete ic Nvidia Corporation is expanding its investments in robotics in 2025. Namely, in the first half of the new year, as FT confirms, Nvidia is introducing a new generation of computing devices for humanoid robots called Jetson Thor.
The decision, which was expected, was something that has been in the process for years with the goal of reaching this point. Nvidia has no intention to go head-to-head with manufactures such as Tesla; instead it will offer to all the ‘hundreds of thousands’ of robot manufacturers current all over the world an underlying OEM as its vice president of robotics, Deepu Talla cited to reporters last month in Tokyo.
As for why now, Talla tells the FT that the shift owes to two technological breakthroughs: the development of many generative AI models, and the capabilities to teach robots in simulators from those models.
What Nvidia isn’t saying but is also plainly the case: its entry into artificial intelligence robotics at a time its corporate clients such as Amazon and Google are trying to reduce their reliance on the outfit’s AI chips by building their own.
