Apple launched beta 18.3 versions of operating systems today to its developer community. But they come with one tweak that hasn't been reported on, per MacRumors: Your device activates Apple Intelligence AI functions right from the setup process. Once Apple Intelligence appeared in iOS 18.1 as a new feature users needed to decide if they wanted to switch it on or leave it disabled. After device setup ends users need to go to the Settings app's Apple Intelligence & Siri section to disable these features.
Apple Intelligence will automatically activate on devices that support this technology during their setup. Users can enable Apple Intelligence only on the iPhones that belong to the iPhone 15 Pro, 16, and 16 Pro product lines. The technology operates on all devices that feature M1 processors or advanced versions as its starting point.
Apple develops its generative AI tools like other tech companies before announcing them as beta products with built-in default settings. Case in point: Before users could access news and entertainment app notifications Apple disabled this feature to fix misinformation errors in notifications.
Apple has released new features in the same manner many times earlier. Siri debuted as a beta feature on iPhone 4S in 2011 and Apple relied on that designation to deflect product criticism. Siri eliminated its "beta" status from its systems in 2013. The iOS 18.3 update keeps basic functions while burying technical enhancements. Through Visual Intelligence technology in the new iPhone 16 lineup users can let Siri automatically create calendar entries from printed materials and recognize plants and animals in digital images.
And there are several changes to how Notification Summaries work, besides the ones for news apps being turned off: Through the lock screen settings you may now disable app summary notifications and italic text separates these from regular system alerts. Mac users will receive access to Genmoji along with other iOS/iPadOS 18.2 features.
